  • Maybe you sent the text.
  • Got defensive.
  • Overexplained.
  • Asked for reassurance again.
  • Shut down.
  • Said something you wish you hadn't.
  • Or spent hours replaying the situation in your mind.

Now the intensity is beginning to come down... and the regret, embarrassment, exhaustion, or self-criticism is setting in.

This is the moment the Post-Spiral Recovery Page was created for.

After the Spiral, It's Easy to Start Another One

The emotional surge may be over. But then comes the aftermath.

Why did I do that?

I completely overreacted.

They're probably even more upset with me now.

I need to fix this.

I can't believe I did this again.

And before you know it, you're spiraling about the spiral.

Recovery doesn't have to begin with self-criticism.

It can begin with slowing down and getting curious about what happened.

The Post-Spiral Recovery Page Helps You Work Through:

✓ What actually happened

Separate the event itself from the assumptions and meanings that may have developed during the spiral.

✓ What triggered the emotional response

Identify the moment your nervous system registered rejection, criticism, disappointment, exclusion, or disconnection.

✓ What story your mind started telling

Notice the conclusions you reached when emotions were running high.

✓ How you tried to protect yourself

Recognize behaviors like reassurance seeking, defensiveness, withdrawal, overexplaining, people-pleasing, shutting down, or trying to immediately repair the situation.

✓ What you know now

Revisit the situation after some of the emotional intensity has passed.

✓ What needs to happen next

Consider whether the situation needs communication, clarification, repair, a boundary—or simply time to settle.

You Don't Have to Punish Yourself to Learn From What Happened.

Maybe there are things you wish you had handled differently.

That's okay to acknowledge.

But there's an important difference between:

Taking responsibility

and

turning yourself into the problem.

Recovery gives you an opportunity to look at what happened without deciding that the spiral says something terrible about who you are.

Instead of:

“What's wrong with me?”

you can begin asking:

“What happened, what was I trying to protect myself from, and what would help now?”

Before You Send Another Text...

Before you apologize again...

Before you ask one more time whether they're upset...

Before you explain what you really meant...

Before you decide the relationship is ruined...

Before you spend another three hours replaying the conversation...

Give yourself a moment to recover first.

The Post-Spiral Recovery Page gives you a place to slow everything down and work through what happened after the emotional intensity begins to settle.

It won't tell you that your feelings weren't real.

And it won't tell you to simply “stop overthinking.”

It will help you examine the situation with a little more distance so you can decide what actually needs your attention.

Recovery Isn't About Pretending Nothing Happened.

Sometimes repair really is needed.

Maybe you said something hurtful.

Maybe someone else did.

Maybe there was a genuine misunderstanding.

Maybe a boundary was crossed.

Maybe you need to have a conversation.

And sometimes...

nothing needs to be fixed right now.

Part of building resilience is learning to tell the difference.

You don't need this resource when everything feels calm.

You need it when your brain is telling you to DO SOMETHING RIGHT NOW.

Save it to your phone.

Print a copy.

Keep it beside your bed.

Put it somewhere you can reach for it when the next spiral happens.

You don't have to remember every skill you've ever learned when you're emotionally overwhelmed.

Sometimes you just need something that helps you find your way back.

Hi, I'm Molly.

I'm a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, educator, and founder of RSD Resilience.

My interest in rejection sensitivity is both professional and deeply personal.

I've experienced the spiral.

I've experienced the aftermath.

And I've experienced the exhausting cycle of trying to figure out what happened, what someone else meant, what I did wrong, and how quickly I needed to fix it.

Learning to recognize these patterns changed the way I approached rejection sensitivity in my own life and relationships.

That's one of the reasons I created RSD Resilience:

To provide practical tools that help people move from:

“Why do I keep doing this?”

to:

“I recognize what happened. Now I can decide what I need next.”

The Spiral Already Happened.

You can still choose what happens next.
